It’s time to get back in the game.
Apple Photos for Photo Managers was launched 3 generations (soon to be 4) of macOS and iOS ago. 4 years.
All things considered, the course has aged really well. When I reviewed it I was pleasantly surprised that the core concepts and techniques, were solid and still relevant. But photo libraries are larger, use cases are more complex, and the upcoming macOS Sequoia/iOS 18 looks like a serious game changer, particularly with Photos.
Time for a refresh.
And then some.
Introducing The Professionals’ Playbook for Apple Photos.
Playbook goes beyond traditional course content by including ‘playbooks’ for 7 common Apple Photos client scenarios like:
The Library Overload Playbook
The All Dressed Up And Nowhere To Go Playbook
The Digital Nomad Playbook
These playbooks will develop over time to help members serve Apple Photos clients in the best possible way and create systems that address the unique needs of the Apple Photos ecosystem.
The Professionals’ Playbook also addresses 2 timely events:
- macOS Sequoia and iOS 18 include a major redesign of Apple Photos.
- Some remarkable 3rd party apps have arrived in recent months that deserve inclusion as support tools in the Apple Photos ecosystem.
Some of that is addressed in this version of Playbook and the rest will be added in October, after the public release of this year’s OS upgrade.
It’s a lot. I know. And, frankly, it scares me a bit because Playbook seems on its way to becoming a living document. That I will have to keep current. In some way.
Here’s the thing.
I believe that Apple Photos still offers the average consumer the easiest, most accessible photo management system out there. But it’s getting more complicated and nuanced, in a way that will require well-informed experts to help manage.
I believe that the speed at which it changes, with AI, will accelerate, as will all the tools we rely on.
I believe that this is an amazing, overwhelming, spectacular, inspiring place to be.
The center of the imaging universe, smack-dab between raw creation and culture itself.
It curls my toes.
Cool, Paul, so why are you writing me?
Even though I’ve pulled content from the old course for this summer launch, The Professional’s Playbook for Apple Photos is going to be a whole new course by the end of 2024. It will reflect the 4 year journey that Apple Photos and the discipline of photo management has taken since the last update.
Naturally, people have asked if they get the new course for free, or if there’s going to be a deal to upgrade.
Yes. And yes.
There are your options:
1) DO NOTHING - Current members of Apple Photos for Photo Managers will automatically get an upgrade to the core portion of The Professionals’ Playbook (PLAYBOOK LITE) when the OS components are updated in October (estimated). This will essentially be an updated version of the current course. Apple Photos for Photo Managers will be removed from sale but will be available for review until PLAYBOOK LITE replaces it.
2) UPGRADE TO FULL PLAYBOOK - For $99, APPM subscribers can upgrade to the full version of The Professionals’ Playbook that includes Playbooks and 3rd party app references. This is a limited time offer during the launch. Choose the PLAYBOOK full $495 purchase and apply the coupon PLAYBOOKUPGRADE at checkout to get the offer price. Good through Sunday, July 21st.
